One Step Closer to Summer
I escaped to the hills of West Virginia this weekend to visit my grandparents, in honor of my grandpa’s 80th birthday. I wasn’t as hands on about catching moments this weekend, instead I spent a lot of my time playing with my younger cousins on the playground, talking to relatives I haven’t seen in a while, and petting kittens. With that being said, I still took the time to take some photos during my weekend getaway, which you will see below.
It was a nice break before the end of the school year. There are only a few weeks of school left, and it is crazy to look back on all that has happened over the course of my sophomore year of college. I can almost taste summer. I have the awkward tan lines to prove that the season is slowly but surely creeping back into my life.
Spring Quarter Happenings
Spring Quarter has been another busy quarter, and I have a little over a month of school left. I have started to get a little anncy because of everyone on semesters, who are currently taking finals. I have been shooting for the Post [http://thepost.ohiou.edu/], the student newspaper I work for, and I have been working on an exciting Soul of Athens project. When the site for the project launches at the end of May I will put a link here. The weather has been fairly nice, never consistent though. Thanks, Ohio! Here are some images I have made during the quarter, enjoy!

The protesters gathered on College Green at 4 p.m., migrated to the outside of Baker University Center and then marched down court street.

Bowen, Eddy, and other family members planted flowers in honor of Fred and Mary Hart, their parents who were tragically killed in a car accident last July. The event was held to dedicate the flower gardens, around the entrance of the courthouse, to the crime victims and their families.

And some photos from Palmer Place Fest on April 27, 2012. It definitely was not as crazy as the infamous Palmer Fest, but the weather was nice, and a lot of people crammed into one little courtyard. Oh, College.
Spring Break 2012
Spring break is almost over; as I reflect back I am thankful for this mini-vacation away from school. I have spent the past week and a half with many people I love that I, sadly, rarely get to see nowadays. The first photo is of my mom and cat, Milly. I got home late one evening to find both of them asleep in my bed with the Discovery ID channel on TV. Most of the pictures are from my grandparents’ home in Scherr, West Virginia. I spent a couple days basking in the warm weather while I followed Pappy around. The last photo is from an evening walk around my neighborhood at home in Northern Virginia. I am happy to see all the trees full of new blooms. Winter Quarter took a lot out of me, physically and mentally, but I survived! I am excited for what spring and summer have to offer. For now I am going to enjoy the last few remaining moments of my break and then prepare for new classes. Bring it on, Spring Quarter!
Medflight 6
“Look, up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane!” No, not exactly a plane, instead it’s a Medflight helicopter coming to the rescue.
Medflight of Ohio is an accredited air and ground critical care transportation company based in Columbus, Ohio, that completes nearly 7,000 critical care transports by helicopter and Mobile Intensive Care Unit each year.
There are eight Medflight helicopter bases spread through out the state of Ohio and two Mobile Intensive Care Units. Medflight 6, located on 975 E. Airport Road NE in McConnelsville, Ohio, happens to be a very busy base.
The Medflight 6 base is a small white house built on the side of the road with a helicopter launch pad and runway right beside it. The base acts as a home for the nurses, medics, and pilots on duty. It consists of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, a full kitchen, a garage and more. There are always three people on duty at the base: a nurse, medic, and pilot. The nurses and medics work 24-hour shifts, while the pilots work a 12-hour morning or night shift.
The workers at the Medflight 6 base agreed that the thrill in working with the Medflight of Ohio comes from never knowing what the day is going to be like. There could be three or four calls in one day, while there could be three straight days without a ring from the telephone.
I wanted to share some of the images I made while hanging out with the Medflight 6 crew. I got access through shooting for Southeast Ohio Magazine. I had an absolute blast. It made me want to get my own pilot’s license. Maybe one day, haha. I got to go hang out at the base twice, and both times I went on a call with them. One of those times I was left at a hosipital in Cambridge for over an hour and a half! It was definitely an adventure. Thank you Medflight 6 for being so open to me photographing. Enjoy!
A Hockey and Basketball Filled Weekend
The Ohio Bobcat Hockey team played the Adrian College Bulldogs on Friday and Saturday night. On Friday the 24th the Bobcats beat the Bulldogs 4 to 3. Sadly, on Saturday the 25th the Bulldogs powered out a win of 5 to 1 on the Bobcats’ Senior Night. The tension was high during both games, as multiple players got into fights and repeatedly slammed each other around.
On Sunday night, I shot the Ohio vs. Akron basketball game . The game marked the last home game of the season for the Ohio Bobcats. It was also aired on ESPNU at 8 p.m. eastern time. The Bobcats blazed by the Akron Zips with a score of 85 to 61 leaving the Bobcats even more hopeful in winning the MAC East title.
Wrestling from a 300mm f/2.8 perspective:
This past weekend I shot the Ohio University wrestling match against West Virginia University. West Virginia creamed Ohio, with a score of 36 to 3 on Ohio’s Senior Night. I thought it might be fun to shoot wrestling with some bigger glass that I don’t normally use. Nikon’s 300mm f/2.8 is a beautiful lens. I am used to using with it for football and soccer occasionally, but that’s about it. Here are some of my photos from the match:
